Historical Timeline

1680s: Land was originally owned by the Illinois (Illiniwek) but moved out of the region in the 1680s.

1701: The Potawatomi settled in the surrounding area, including what would become Arrowhead Golf Club.

1833: The Potawatomi ceded the last of its land in Illinois and moved out of the region.

1850s: The original farmhouse that would become Arrowhead’s clubhouse was built by Charles Frankingham, an immigrant from Prussia. He, his wife Caroline, and five children lived on the land till his barn burned down in the late 1800s.

Late 1800s: Mathias (Matt) Kammes took over Frankingham’s property after the fire destroyed his barn.

1901 or 1905: John Brown purchased the farm from Matt Kammes and sold the land to Ralph Wiemer in 1924.

December 13, 1925: Chicago Tribune published an article titled, “Elks to Build County Club Near Wheaton”. It describes the course to be named Antlers County Club with a full 18 holes that will be ready by June 1st. It says that the club was being built by Lee Murray and Edward G. Roberts, as well as a board of directors consisting of John Wymond, chairman; James J. Lalla, Frank N. Smith, James Flan, Phil C. Griffin, Fred H Torbeck, and Edward G. Roberts.

July 1926: The original 18-hole Antlers Club opened.

1929: The course was renamed “Arrowhead Golf Club” because of the artifacts found during the construction.

1967: the West Course was added, bringing the total number of holes to 27.

1982: The Wheaton Park District purchased the course from the Jansen family.

1988: Construction began on the East Course.

1990: Phase 1 of the East Course was completed. The driving range was built.

Late 1990s: Construction on the East Course and South Course was completed.

2001: West Course opened; new maintenance facility and golf cart storage was completed.

2003: PHN was selected as the architect for the new clubhouse renovation.

Late Fall 2004: Ground broke on the clubhouse renovation.

May 25, 2006: The new clubhouse opened, as well as the new housing for the Arrowhead Restaurant and Bar.

2010: Outdoor wedding venue was added.

Late 2010: The golf course renovation project was started.

2013: The renovation of the golf course was completed.

2014: The driving range was renovated.

2016: Celebrated 10-year anniversary of the Clubhouse

2019: Outdoor terrace space created

2021: Celebrated the inclusion of the Wheaton Park District 100th Anniversary

2022: New starter box installed

2025: Set the course for the new logo and anniversary plans
