NEW YEAR. NEW BLOG.

Meet the Arrowhead Golf Club Wedding Specialists!

Alexis Wiley (soon to be MRS.!)

Upon graduating Eastern Illinois University with my Hospitality Management Degree, I was hired at Arrowhead Golf Club as their wedding coordinator assistant. I remember the first wedding I assisted, it was a beautiful, late September, fall day. The bride, the wedding party, and the ceremony and reception décor was beautiful. Working closely with the bride and the groom that day, I watched them try to perfect themselves for someone who already thought they were perfect. I could feel the excitement and the nerves as the wedding party lined up for the ceremony to begin. I saw the innocent love as the bride looked at her dad right before she walked down the aisle. There are no words to describe all of the emotions. This is when I knew I wanted to continue my career in wedding planning.

Soon after, I became a full-time wedding specialist. My days are fast-paced and challenging, but the reward is amazing. Seeing our guests happy with the food and service we provide, and hearing that the bride and groom had the perfect day, means everything.

I am getting married in December of this year, so I finally get to experience the excitement of being a bride to be. Soon I will be able to truly understand my bride’s emotions the day of the wedding and I cannot wait! Until then, I still try to keep an eye out for those little moments between the bride and groom that take me back to my first wedding.

When I was asked as a little kid what I wanted to be when I grew up, my answer was: a wedding planner! I knew I wanted to work in weddings since I was 11 years old after I watched the movie “The Wedding Planner” with Jennifer Lopez, so cliche, I know! I attended the University of Central Florida, Rosen School of Hospitality, to get a degree in Event Management to fulfill my childhood dream. I started my career at a luxury resort on Captiva Island, Florida, planning destination beach weddings. I have been working in the wedding industry for 6 years now and I am still absolute that I love everything about weddings, the details, the love, and of course…the cake. I have a bit of an obsession with sugar, preferably macaroons!

I got to marry my wonderful husband almost two years ago and it was undoubtedly the best day of my life. We moved to my husband’s home state of Illinois and I am lucky enough to plan weddings at the beautiful Arrowhead Golf Club. I work many weekends and many hours but it is worth it when I get to witness a couple’s dream wedding become reality. That’s what Starbucks is for anyway!
